Instead of getting taxed on their surplus, farmers would grind their corn into powder, heat it in water, and add yeast to distill it into corn whiskey.
This was cheap and easy to make at home.
- CLEAR ALCOHOL -
The once its distilled, it produces a clear “pure” alcohol.
- Charred Barrels -
In 1789, A Baptist Minister named Elijah Craig was using old barrels to store his corn whiskey.
To “clean” the barrels, he charred the inside before storing.
